History

Mellor Enterprises started out in Emerald’s agricultural industry more than 20 years ago, with Greg Mellor developing land to farm cotton. Greg’s passion for developing deralic land into high yielding dryland and irrigated crops took hold and saw him contracting to other primary produces within the Emerald area.

Within years greg’s agricultural devlopment division was subcontracted to Cubby Station for the development of water storages, which until the recent drought saw cubby as the largest single producer of cotton in australia.

Mellor Enterprises was approached by Austrade in 2004 to look into high risk sustainable irrigations projects, one example being in Botswana. Mellor Enterprises was invited to Botswana to meet with the Agricultural Minister and provide feasibility studies into the production of cotton on the northern plains. Meetings were also held at the request of diamond company De Beers, who has interests in cotton in this region.

Being a family based business Greg’s eldest son Jon, joined the company in 1998 after completing a mechanical apprenticeship. He was a natural at running projects, liasing with clients and scheduling machinery. His exceptional mechanical ability now sees him in charge of the maintenance department, after completing his apprenticeship as a diesel fitter in the marine industry.

In recent times, due to the massive resources boom, Mellor's has catapulted into the mining industry. Projects have included supplying staff and machinery as well as heavy haulage of mining equipment and quarrying product throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory.
